Planets in Medical Astrology: The Moon
The Moon tends to be cold and moist, nourishing, periodic and governs fluids and mucous membranes.
Systems influenced:
- Left eye in the man and right eye in the woman
- Cerebellum
- Lymphatic
- Reproductive and menstrual
- Digestive - particular the stomach and the pancreas
A prominent moon can indicate a drug sensitive individual. This is especially when Moon is a singleton, or conjunct ASC or MC.
The subconscious/unconscious
Relates to the unconscious and subconscious functions of the body. Much of these influences are occult. These include past life patterns, ancestral and diseases imprinted from planetary-humanity-personal memory. It has a major effect on health and disease.
Hence the Moon functions rather like an automatic pilot, unseen and unrealised with the normal consciousness. Relative considerations are:
The Moon phases natally and at the point of disease origin and progression. The Full Moon especially has a profound effect on surgery, bleeding, healing and prognosis. Surgery near and during the Full Moon tend to incur complications.
The aspects of the Moon, especially to the Sun. Aspects of the Moon to the sign or planet relevant to the patient's disease.
When the Moon is Void of Course, which is usually an unfavourable time for surgery.
Subconscious and unconscious functions are especially relevant for the activity of:
The limbic system. These include sublimal behavioural patterns, including influences imprinted during gestation, birth and childhood. Thereby, patients often repeat the diseases and disease outcomes of their parents and ancestors. This is a disease coded to activate within the genetic code, usually after the mid-life crisis point of the individual. Consider also a weak Sun such that Ego is not sufficiently strong enough to throw off the ancestors. There is often childhood headaches (deep within the brain, relates to limbic and pituitary gland pressure), delayed dentition and suppressed infectious febrile diseases.
Hormonal functions
Especially related to the glandular production of the hormones. The master glands pituitary and hypothalamus are especially related to the Moon. Much of their function is subliminal or automatic. Consider disorders of:
- LH/FSH with ovarian dysfunction and sacral chakra disorders. Look at the Venus relationship to the Moon.
- Growth hormone disorders - when excessive there may be added influences of Uranus and Moon (Uranus populated Gaia with Titans and other giants). When deficient there may be Pluto-Moon dysfunction (giants were suppressed into Tantalus).
- Prolactin disorders - unaspected Moon problems, hence nurturing and lactation is disinhibited or not regulated in relation to the physiology of the other planets.
- Thyroid stimulating hormone - look at Mercury and Moon problems. When excessive TSH with hyperthyroidism, consider excessive Mercury action. When deficient TSH with hypothyroidism consider suppressed Mercury activity.
- Adrenocortical stimulating hormone (ACTH) - consider the relationship between Jupiter (sometimes Mars) and Moon.
- Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) - consider Venus and Moon problems.
Lymphatic system
It regulates the lymph channels, the production of lymph (as connective or interstitial fluid), the chyle-lymph from gut digestion and absorption and the flow of lymph. Hence diseases include:
- Blocked lymph flow (such as elephantiasis, post-radiotherapy fibrosis, lymph node resection lymphodema) from problems between Saturn and Moon.
- Inflammation of lymph (lymphangitis) often due to trauma, parasites, related to Mars and Moon problems.
- Disorders of lymph-chyle from the gut relate to Jupiter and Moon problems.
- Congested body fluids, interstitial odema. This is usually a metabolic disorder within the liver. Also progressive heart failure (the liver is the Chinese elemental mother of the heart). Jupiter based toxicity that has not been properly metabolised will intrude into the moon sphere of the lymph and body fluids.
- Lack of body fluids, relates to yin deficiency states, usually a kidney and liver yin deficiency. Look for a problem between Saturn and Moon, with Saturn leading to fibrosis and hardening patterns.
- Mucous membrane and serosal surface disorders. This usually relates to problems between Mercury and Moon. Mercury provides for the communication of the external environment or other cavity with the surface membrane. The Moon relates to the membrane itself and its underlying organ tissue.
- Deficient action or the membrane, such as depleted membrane surfaces, underactivity, ciliary fibre atrophy, dryness of the surface (e.g. cystic fibrosis with lung and pancreatic failure), asthma from alpha-1 trypsin deficiency, gut malabsorption from coeliac disease (gluten sensitivity and subtotal villous atrophy). There is not enough Mercury action upon the membrane, which subsequently atrophies. Moon is suppressed in the chart.
- Inflammation and mucus congestion on the membrane, e.g. many types of infection, bronchitis, Crohn's disease, bronchiectasis etc. Mercury is overacting on Moon, i.e. there is excessive or intensive Mercury effect on Moon.
Menstrual cycle
Moon relates to the yin and etheric nourishment and support of the reproductive system. Thus problems lead to not enough substance in form or function for the astral and ego to mobilise or transform. Patterns include:
- Ovarian deficiency, primary or secondary, leading to amenorrhea, oestrogen deficiency, thin devitalised women with osteoporosis and dryness of linings, infertility. In the extreme there is hardly any ovarian tissue, e.g. gonadal streak, from defective embryo development of the ovaries. The embryonic female was cut off from the Moon forces during gestation, hence not enough past life and ancestral information entered the embryo.
- Dry weak uterus, as in scanty menstrual bleeds, fibroids, recurrent 1st trimester miscarriages, infertility from ineffective fertilised egg cell implantation, 2nd trimester miscarriages from poor placental blood flow and thus weak nourishment to the fetus, uterine prolapse patterns with 3rd trimester miscarriages through herniation of the gestation sac through the cervix.
- Early or premature menopause, such as age 35. This could be due to premature ovarian failure, also Tamoxifen drug treatment (an anti-oestrogen drug for breast cancer treatment), radiotherapy to the ovaries, viral or other oophoritis (inflammation of the ovaries), medical damage from egg cell harvesting and follicle aspiration during IVF treatment.
- Breast function and form. This include size or breasts, level of milk production after childbirth and problems with lactation and breastfeeding. Weak Moon forces leads to small breasts and/or deficient milk production. Also the lactating mother is easily fatigued during breastfeeding.
- Where there is fibrosis and hardening of tissues (such as uterine fibroids, after radiotherapy treatment) consider problems between Saturn and Moon.
- Where there is insufficient vitality within the tissues (e.g. premature ovarian failure) consider the influence of Venus and the Moon.
- Where there is tissue destruction (e.g. cervical incompetence causing miscarriage, after IVF treatment) consider Pluto and Moon.
- For cancers of the reproductive system consider Moon and Saturn patterns (especially where the cancer is a hard deposit, note Conium) and Moon-Pluto patterns (especially where the cancer causes tissue destruction and deformity), and Moon-Saturn-Pluto patterns combined.
Excess patterns within the reproductive system, often also involve Mars, Venus and/or Mercury. Examples include:
- Sexually transmitted diseases (e.g. gonorrhea, syphilis, trichomonas etc) with excessive mucus, discharge, damp-heat patterns, chronic inflammation. Consider the relationship between Venus and Moon, with Venus overacting. Sometimes Mercury leads to chronic inflammation, especially when the immune system is hypersensitive with allergies and/or candida infection.
- Trauma patterns and wounds to system, also excessive bleeding (such as menstrual with menorrhagia, post-natal/miscarriage excessive haemorrhage) consider Mars and Moon patterns.
- Breast inflammation, such as mastitis whether during or not during lactation. Consider Mars, Mercury and Moon patterns. Mars relates here to the red inflammation and blood congestion, whereas Mercury to the communication between mother and baby when lactating (such as karmic rejection of the mother's milk), the moon to the milk and lymph engorgement within the breast ducts.
Digestion
Gut digestion especially related to the probiotic bacterial flora of the gut, the integrity of the gut mucosal lining and the unconscious liver regulation of gut activity. The normal gut flora are connected to Old Moon based nourishment, and also provide a normal barrier separating the immune system of the Peyers patches and spleen regulated gut lymphocytes from any gut intra-luminal toxins and microbes. Where the Moon is malefic then there may be destruction of the normal gut flora (e.g. after amniocentesis or abnormal birth where defects occur in the early bacterial population of the gut), after antibiotic treatment which temporarily sterilises the gut lumen and then causes repopulation but with abnormal microbe species, leaky gut syndromes often leading to parasites and fungal overgrowth such as candidiasis.
Problems arise when the normally unconscious activity of the gut becomes abnormally conscious (this equates to the descent of the conscious nerve-sensory system dynamic into the metabolic-limb system). This is usually associated with weak Moon forces causing a weak etheric vitality in the lower pole and abdomen. Diseases include irritable bowel syndrome, panic disorders with gut symptoms, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer. Consider problems between Sun and Moon. Where bleeding is involved (e.g. ulcerative colitis and a bleeding ulcer) then also added influence of Mars upon the Moon.
